Council is the "Appropriate Regulatory Authority" for most premises in relation to air, water and noise pollution within the Narrandera Shire.

This is in accordance with the Protection of the Environment Operations Act 1997. The exceptions are premises owned by the Government and premises licenced to pollute by the Environment Protection Authority.
