Narrandera Shire Council is a statutory corporation established under the Local Government Act 1993. Our Councillors, meeting together as the Council, are the governing body of the corporation and are responsible for directing and controlling the affairs of Council in accordance with the Act.
Our governing body comprises nine Councillors, who are popularly elected by eligible residents and ratepayers at local government elections held every four years. All Councillors are elected to represent the entire Narrandera Shire local government area, rather than individual wards. The results of the most recent elections, held in September 2024, can be accessed from the NSW Electoral Commission website.
The Mayor and Deputy Mayor are chosen by the Councillors and elected for a two-year term. The current Mayor and Deputy Mayor, Councillors Neville Kschenka and Sue Ruffles, were elected to serve in their respective positions from October 2024 to October 2026.
Councillors make decisions on all key matters at Council meetings, which are open to the public. Members of the public can also apply to address Council meetings.
Council operates a number of committees to provide guidance on various issues and opportunities facing the Narrandera Shire community. Council nominates Councillors to serve as delegates on these committees.
