Narrandera Shire Council is pleased to announce significant progress on the sewer treatment plant project located on Kolkilbertoo Road, which is now 50% complete. This vital infrastructure project is set to enhance wastewater management in Barellan and is on track for completion by the end of December 2024.
Key Updates
- Sewer Treatment Plant: Earthworks are finished, and the installation of the clay liner in the treatment plant ponds is currently underway. The next steps will involve adding sand, geofabric, and rock armouring layers, followed by the construction of access roads. The treatment plants are expected to begin accepting waste by mid-November.
- Sewer Pumping Stations: The sewer pumping stations have been successfully installed, with final commissioning scheduled in October.
- Sewer Mains Installation: All sewer mains have been installed, including critical sections of piping beneath Burley Griffin Way and the railway. Final testing of these mains will also be conducted in October.
- Property Connections: Work is progressing on connecting properties to the new sewer mains. Plumbers are currently laying pipes from the mains to just before customers' existing septic tanks, with this phase 90% complete. Once the sewer treatment plant is operational, plumbers will return briefly to connect the sewer upstream of the septic tanks and subsequently decommission them.
- Road Rehabilitation: To restore the community's infrastructure, rehabilitation of the sealed roads and laneways around Barellan will take place throughout October and November. Additionally, grass seeding of disturbed areas will continue during this period.
Council appreciated the patience and cooperation of the Barellan community as we work to enhance our local infrastructure.
